New Customer Tools Increase Network Visibility; Expanded Offerings Enhance Quality of Service
ASHBURN, Va., February 16, 2005 - MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced it is rolling out a new set of global network management tools and expanded classes of service for Private IP, its fastest growing service. With these enhancements, companies will gain a more integrated view into their networks from the desktop to the data center as well as the ability to further prioritize traffic by application.
"By empowering companies to better manage their IT infrastructure, companies can transition to a converged environment with greater ease and confidence," said Nancy Gofus, MCI senior vice president of Product Management. "These enhancements make it easier for enterprises to run 'everything over IP', while ensuring high levels of performance and reliability."
Leveraging technology from Concord Communications and from Centrisoft Corporation, MCI has built a proactive network management system for its Private IP customers to offer a comprehensive picture of an enterprise networking environment, including application availability, server performance and network capacity.
MCI's new reporting system proactively monitors the health of a customer's network, including the identification of issues before they arise. IT managers can analyze historical trends and predict where and when more bandwidth will be needed using MCI's new Web-based tool set. As a result, customers can determine which sites are under or over-utilizing bandwidth, which applications are showing degradation and which servers are carrying data most efficiently.
"Enterprise customers are looking for advanced tools to help them manage their networks more intelligently," said Jay Pultz, vice president with Gartner Research. "Flexibility in reporting detail, near real-time information and Web-based portals are key to meeting these goals."
MCI's new Web-based tools are available for all new and current U.S. and Asia Pacific-based customers, including multinationals. Customers can choose between Standard Reporting, Standard Select Reporting, Enhanced Traffic Management (ETM) Reporting and ETM Select Reporting. Beginning in April, a fifth tool, LAN Reporting, will be available to U.S.-based companies. The features of each report vary from on-demand, real-time capabilities to weekly performance reports, all accessible through MCI's Customer Center portal.
MCI's Private IP, which comes complete with the standard reporting option, offers the upgraded tools for an additional fee per site. The additional classes of service distinctions are included in the Private IP port charge. Making it easier for customers to purchase Private IP globally, MCI recently implemented a consistent, simplified pricing structure worldwide.
Private IP is an MPLS-based VPN service that lets customers connect offices around the globe. Available from more than 90 countries using a combination of access methods such as frame, ATM, IP, DSL and satellite, Private IP offers companies all the benefits of IP within the security of a private networking environment.
