This is a guest post from Tim Tender (@TT_7), who travels the country working for Weather Central as a trainer/software implementer.

A few years ago, I was invited to go with a friend to participate in an event called the Warrior Dash. I had no idea this three-mile run through mud, water, obstacles and even fire was just the beginning in a new trend of obstacle course races. Since I can’t stand to go on boring long-distance runs on pavement, these are right up my alley. They offer a unique physical challenge and aren’t your normal, boring, run-of-the-mill races.

Fast forward to August 2013, and I’m signed up for yet another race. This time, it’s the Hard Charge in northern Illinois. In advance of this next adventure, I explained to my contact at Verizon Wireless what I was doing, and he suggested I take along the CASIO G’zOne Commando® 4G LTE. My brother had the first version of this phone and loved how rugged it was (trust me, he’s very hard on his phones… and his phone survived!). I figured after the punishment my brother dished out to his phone, the new version had to be even better, so I decided to give it a shot.

I took the phone along with me during the race. During the course of the run, we went through mud, water, sand, more mud, more water and even more mud. Along the way, I took a bunch of pictures and was even able to tweet a few. I made it a point to bring the phone out when I was around people because I wanted to see their reactions to a phone that could survive this kind of torture.

People were amazed, and so was I! The G’zOne Commando did amazingly well during the race and quite possibly held up better than I did. Other than a little dirt, the phone is in great shape and ready for the next adventure.

Since the race, I’ve taken up mountain biking, and the phone is a great take-along for those rides, as well. I don’t have to worry about it at all. I just stuff it in my pocket and go.

I’d love to hear how you abuse – okay, maybe that’s the wrong word – get the most out of your G’zOne Commando. Drop me a tweet – @TT_7.
