President Clinton & MCI WorldCom Foundation Announce Internet Training Program For Teachers

Through its MarcoPolo Program, the MCI WorldCom Foundation
Will Roll Out Educator Training in a Seven-State Mississippi Delta
Region

CLINTON, Miss., Dec. 10, 1999 - At a meeting later today at a
local high school in east Arkansas, President Clinton, along with
Secretary of Education Richard Riley, will announce a new initiative
providing Internet training for all teachers in seven Mississippi Delta
states, funded by the MCI WorldCom Foundation.

The training will be provided through the MCI WorldCom
Foundation's MarcoPolo Internet Content for the Classroom program,
a partnership between the Foundation and seven leading educational
organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement
of Science, the Council of the Great City Schools, the Kennedy Center,
the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council
on Economic Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and
the National Geographic Society. The seven states included in the
latest MarcoPolo roll-out include Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.

"With MCI WorldCom helping to lead the Internet's growth it
is a natural for us to take the lead in helping teachers harness the
enormous educational power of the Internet," said Bernard J.
Ebbers, president and chief executive officer of MCI WorldCom.

Caleb Schutz, executive director of the MCI WorldCom Foundation
said, "This training, offered at no charge, is intended to impact
every classroom in every school in all seven states. MarcoPolo training
materials provide rich lesson plans, blue ribbon panel-approved website
links to our partners, and a treasure of original content, all provided
by some of the most prestigious educational organizations in the
country."

The MarcoPolo program features a comprehensive teacher training kit
and is delivered to teacher trainers by certified instructors, who are
teachers. The MarcoPolo websites and teacher training materials are
available online at no cost through the program's web site
(www.wcom.com/marcopolo) and are targeted to teachers that must meet
rigorous academic goals set by their school districts. Any state or
school district in the country meeting the program requirements can
sign up for the training through the MarcoPolo website.
