Turner Broadcasting, NYNEX team up in innovative marketing deal

--SM becomes official directory on CNN

Interactive news site--

NEW YORK--Jan. 28, 1997--Two global communications

companies with established brand names and leading Internet

sites today announced a unique and innovative marketing

arrangement that provides major benefits for customers of

both companies.

NYNEX's SM (www.bigyellow.com), the leading

on-line shopping service, will become the official yellow

pages directory on CNN Interactive (CNN.com), the world's

leading provider of news and information on the

Internet.

As a result, users of CNN Interactive will be able to

conduct a search for a business, residential or E-mail

listing from nearly any of the pages on the news site. The

arrangement is expected to significantly boost BigYellow

traffic while bringing an important new utility feature to

CNN's site.

Unlike traditional advertising banners and buttons,

which typically are sold around certain sections of

commercial web sites, the BigYellow icon will appear on the

screen next to almost all news stories and enable users to

hot-link directly to the leading on-line shopping

service.

BigYellow, already a major advertiser on CNN

Interactive, will pay a premium for the official directory

designation. With more than 12 million visits per week, CNN

Interactive is the Web's most visited news site. With nearly

1 million visits per month and 15,000 advertisements,

BigYellow is the leading shopping directory on the Web.

"This marketing approach should pay dividends for

everyone," said Richard Glassberg, vice president and

general manager of Turner Interactive Marketing and Sales.

"CNN Interactive's users will now have an easy and direct

tie to the best on-line directory available and Big Yellow's

advertisers will be exposed to more than 500 million page

views over the course of the year."

"We are delighted to have been chosen by CNN to be

their site's shopping directory," said William Wise,

President of NYNEX Information Technologies, developer of

BigYellow. "Our decade's worth of development of BigYellow

and on-line shopping has started to pay off with increased

user traffic for our local and national advertisers. This

alliance with CNN shows our commitment to maintaining our

position in the industry as the trusted intermediary for

on-line consumers."

With the BigYellow search capability on nearly all of

the CNN web pages, traffic to BigYellow is expected to

increase dramatically, which is "great news for our

advertisers," Wise said.

CNN Interactive serves more than 12 million web page

views per week, providing news from around the world with

the same speed, fairness and accuracy that viewers have come

to expect from CNN-- the world's news leader. CNN

Interactive web coverage of news, sports and weather

includes video, sound clips, photographs and maps. The on-

line service has more than 100 advertisers.

Turner Interactive Marketing and Sales (TIMS) handles

ad sales and marketing for all of Turner Broadcasting's

on-line services, which include the CNN web sites: CNN

Interactive, CNNfn Interactive, and All Politics-- a joint

venture with Time magazine, and a variety of promotional

sites tied to Turner Broadcasting's entertainment

programming, including WCW Interactive, Cartoon Network,

Rough Cuts (TNT) and TBS Dinner & A Movie. The CNN web

sites together attract between 16-17 million page views per

week.

In addition to its 16 million U.S. business listings,

BigYellow features 75 million U.S. residential listings, a

national directory of 7.5 million E-mail addresses, and

links to directories in 32 foreign countries. BigYellow has

strategic relationships with Infoseek, Inc., Four11,

Netscape Communications Corp., and CNN Interactive, as well

as more than 20 content partners for the most popular topics

on its service.
