NEW YORK - That next international call Verizon long-distance customers make may earn them more than a friendly reply: They could win a full year of free long-distance calls.

With Verizon's "12 for 12!" sweepstakes, every international call that lasts at least 12 minutes automatically will generate a sweepstakes entry for the caller. Winners will receive 12 months of free long-distance and international calling from Verizon Long Distance.

"This is wonderful way to reward a group of our most valued customers - those who make frequent international calls," said Jill Wagner, Verizon's vice president of consumer retail markets. "Giving customers the opportunity to win a full year of free long-distance or international calling is our way of saying thanks for choosing Verizon Long Distance as their international calling partner."

The "12 for 12!" sweepstakes promotion began Sept. 1 and ends Dec. 31. During this period 12 winners will be chosen each month. Each winner will receive up to $250 a month of free long-distance calls to use for 12 consecutive months. The amount will appear as an automatic credit to the long-distance portion of each winner's monthly bill for the 12-month prize period beginning in January. The annual long-distance credit per customer will be limited to $3,000.

Advertising to support the "12 for 12!" sweepstakes will include radio, direct mail, bill inserts and Web banners reaching an estimated nine million customers.
