PriceWaterHouseCoopers Joins The Financial Times And UUNET In Search For The Top Business Web Sites

The Financial Times, UUNET and PricewaterhouseCoopers today announced the third International Business Web Site of the Year Awards. Companies are invited to submit their entries to the awards, which are run by the Financial Times and sponsored by UUNET and PricewaterhouseCoopers. This year there are five award categories, including the new Web Site of The Century, which will be voted for by FT readers. The winners will be announced at an event held in November 1999.

The awards were launched two years ago by the Financial Times and UUNET to recognise companies in all industry sectors who are using the Internet to achieve significant commercial advantage. This year, with the increasing importance of the Internet to business, the organisers have introduced a new and more incisive element to the awards by inviting one of the world's leading management consultants, PricewaterhouseCoopers, to jointly sponsor and help judge the event.

UUNET, MCI WorldCom's Internet services division and a global leader in the Internet market, continues its commitment to the competition by sponsoring the event for a third successive year. The company's UK marketing director, Joe Clift, said: "Over the past two years we have seen the standard and number of entries increase dramatically. This year we anticipate an even higher standard once again as the nature and benefits of using the Internet for business become more fully understood by companies in all sectors of industry. We are also delighted to welcome PricewaterhouseCoopers who will bring a new dimension to what we believe will become the leading business Internet award scheme internationally."

Patrick King, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Services, commented: "Businesses must realise that globally we are about to under go massive and disruptive change. And yet what continues to surprise us at PricewaterhouseCoopers, is that if you draw a conclusion from the levels of e-business activity across Europe, you would have to infer that nobody has seen this change coming.

"PricewaterhouseCoopers want to encourage individuals and organisations to embrace change and stay ahead of their competition. We are delighted to be part of the Awards because it gives us the opportunity to highlight and commend the achievers, as well as to encourage others to follow in the path of the few."
