New Automated Vehicle Location Service Helps Businesses Track Vehicle Location and Information on the Web

ASHBURN, Va., February 3, 2004 - SkyTel, a pioneer in innovative wireless data solutions, today introduced FleetHawk, the first complete automated vehicle location (AVL) service backed by an experienced team of customer service professionals that helps businesses manage their vehicle fleets and other mobile assets. FleetHawk combines Global Positioning System (GPS) technology with SkyTel's dedicated wireless data network and the ubiquitous reach of the Internet to capture location, speed and other vehicle information all through a secure, simple to use Web site.

"SkyTel is leveraging its highly-reliable wireless data network to address demand for an all-inclusive solution that helps companies maximize and protect their vehicle assets," said Kerry McKelvey, vice president and general manager of SkyTel. "FleetHawk is the first service to deliver the network, equipment and software that fleet managers need to make quick and efficient business decisions about how their assets are utilized, maintained and managed on a day-to-day basis. FleetHawk creates a new use for SkyTel's dedicated wireless data network by providing machine-to-machine telemetry services."

FleetHawk immediately addresses growing demand for AVL services, which are expected to grow at an annual rate of more than 20 percent through 2006, according to C.J. Driscoll and Associates' 2003 publication of its U.S. Fleet AVL Market Study.

The new service is ideal for businesses with local metro fleets, including vehicle rental companies and passenger and courier service companies that want to improve productivity, lower operational costs and increase potential revenue.

Using a compact transceiver installed on each vehicle, FleetHawk receives and stores GPS information then uses the SkyTel wireless data network to send vehicle-specific information to a secure, simple-to-use Website where customers can view and take command of the data to make important business decisions.

"I like the web site. Its not a huge investment and I can access it all from my desktop," said Allen Fugate of Coach USA. "All of the technology is handled at SkyTel. I just log in, and I can see any of my buses at any given time."

By enabling fleet managers to track a vehicle's location and speed at regular time intervals and be notified when a vehicle enters or exits a particular service area, FleetHawk customers can identify which vehicle is best suited to respond to a particular business opportunity based on proximity. Customers can choose and switch between the most convenient and expedient way to be alerted to specific vehicle information at any given time using a portable SkyTel 2Way-messaging device, a PC-based email account, cell phone or a personal digital assistant (PDA) with an email address.

Companies can use FleetHawk to collect and store historic information about a vehicle and its components to maintain and preserve the well being of their fleet assets. Using FleetHawk's advanced reporting tools, customers can use this information to generate multiple reports in a variety of reporting formats, including spreadsheets or database programs. Since FleetHawk is delivered and managed end-to-end by SkyTel, companies also benefit from one bill and one number to call for customer service.
