UUNET'S UUHOST CO-LOCATE EXPRESS OFFERS UK WEB HOSTING FOR COMMERCE AT A FRACTION OF THE TRADITIONAL COST
UUNET, the Internet services division of MCI WorldCom, has announced UUhost Co-Locate Express, a UUhost product. The new web hosting service enables UK companies wishing to deploy significant web business to utilise UUNET's vast Internet infrastructure and gain fast connection to the Internet for a highly competitive price. This is achieved by linking the cost of the service to match the level of actual activity (volume of data) conducted on the site rather than charging a traditional flat rate fee. UUhost Co-Locate Express is designed to help companies of all sizes to take advantage of using the Internet for e-business, regardless of infrastructure or in-house resource limitations. Customers receive the key benefits of UUNET's existing Co-Locate hosting service. These include management of the physical hosting of the web business by UUNET on a 24 x 7 basis. Secure rack space housed at UUNET's purpose built facilities in one of three UK locations is provided, together with an uninterruptable power supply and dedicated router for network security.
Customers choose their own hardware and software, as well as high speed Internet connectivity, from 1MB to 45 MB, direct to UUNET's Internet backbone. This minimises the burden on the customer's own corporate bandwidth. UUNET's Internet backbone is the most widely deployed world-wide, with industry-leading service level agreements that guarantee customers unrivalled reliability in the service they receive.
UUhost Co-Locate Express offers highly competitive pricing because customers are charged only for the data that passes along the line, as opposed to a traditional flat rate charge. This allows the incremental costs to be built into the customer's own web business pricing model.
Joe Clift, UK marketing director of UUNET, said: "The introduction of UUhost Co-Locate Express demonstrates UUNET's continuing commitment to supporting the drive for e-business in the UK. UUNET hopes to contribute to the rising number of companies conducting e-business by making it possible for enterprises of any size, even those with budget or technology resource limitations, to utilise the industry-leading Internet infrastructure and develop significant web-based businesses that can compete globally with the existing on-line business community.
"Today we are seeing companies that do not have the internal IT and network resources to carry their own servers looking to develop new electronic business models that demand the very best Internet infrastructure. This service adds the ability to affordably ÂŒout-locate' to the common solution of out-sourcing."
