Verizon and Actifio to Provide Unified Data Protection for Enterprises
As more and more workloads shift to the cloud, our customers are facing new and increasing challenges related to backup and cloud data protection in a hybrid environment. The cost and complexity of currently deployed in-house backup systems combined with the need to keep up with rapidly growing data volumes and increasing cloud workloads demands a new approach. To make the process easier, Verizon plans to launch a new unified cloud data protection service based on the Actifio Sky Virtual appliance later this year.
The new unified cloud data protection service, based on Verizon Cloud, will extend our current capabilities out to new customers, and add the ability to back-up both on premises and cloud-based workloads with a single, integrated and easy to use system. Designed specifically for large enterprises, this service will provide seamless data protection across their entire cloud continuum—from the data center through private, hybrid and public cloud infrastructures.
Enterprises will download a simple, VM-based tool—the Actifio Sky virtual appliance—to help protect their on premise workloads. The service is automatically configured to make it easy for clients to move those protected workload images to Verizon Cloud, giving customers the flexibility to manage their workloads wherever it makes sense for them (in Verizon Cloud or on premise), and to access their data anytime and virtually anywhere.
Actifio technology already provides the foundation for our Verizon Cloud Backup, a customizable service that helps protect cloud workloads, enable IT staffs to reduce risk, keep costs in check and simplify backup and restore operations.
We are still finalizing all the bells and whistles associated with this service, but we’re confident that the new integrated cloud and on premise nature of this solution will go beyond basic data back-up and protection, providing true enterprise-class data management.
We expect to launch this new service for enterprises in Q3 2015 and will keep everyone updated on our progress. We are excited at this next step as we continue to build our relationship with Actifio and help our Verizon Cloud customers simplify and streamline their approach to cloud data protection.
