Verizon Enterprise Solutions: 3Q 2014 Highlights

Verizon Enterprise Solutions began deploying innovative enterprise-grade network, cloud, security, mobility, M2M (machine-to-machine) and other technology solutions for clients around the globe in the third-quarter of 2014. Highlights include:

Clients

  • Carestream Health develops and sells imaging products to help dentists and doctors take, process, view, and store images for diagnosis. Its medical imaging devices include digital and computed radiography systems, as well as specialized systems for mammography. Verizon Enterprise Solutions helped Carestream Health by providing Project Management Operation (PMO) support providing the necessary expertise to support their transitioning and global technology integration projects.
  • Dun & Bradstreet is using Verizon’s global IP network to quickly and securely deliver business data and insights to customers around the world.
  • Verizon is deploying a fleet management solution for Caltrans, the California Department of Transportation, to enhance the department’s visibility into the operations of its fleet assets. With deployment to nearly 7,500 state-owned vehicles, including sedans, trucks, snowplows and portable signage, Caltrans intends to use the Verizon Networkfleet GPS-based units to assist in the dispatch of its statewide fleet and improve the department’s overall fleet asset management practices to boost responsiveness, drive efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions’ portfolio of cloud computing and data center services is now available to educators across the State of California as part of a recently inked reseller agreement with the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California, or CENIC.
    By leveraging Verizon’s cloud and data center solutions, K–12 schools and public and private colleges and universities across California will be able to adopt effective and proven technologies to enhance education and research programs, manage applications and data, scale IT resources quickly, efficiently and securely, and boost disaster recovery efforts.
  • Verizon was retained by nearly 100 enterprises and governments to investigate some of the largest and most publicized data breaches across the globe through its digital forensic labs which span six jurisdictions across Asia, the Americas and Europe.
  • Verizon continues to provide its identity solutions for a number of government organizations in more than 50 countries serving more than 200 million citizens throughout the world. In Australia, Verizon works with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to encrypt Australian passports with online digital-enablement services that enable individuals to transact securely and efficiently. In addition, businesses in Australia continue to use Verizon’s identity technology when reporting business activity statements to the Australian Taxation Office.
  • Verizon is working with Property Exchange Australia Ltd (PEXA) to develop an identity and access management capability for an Australia-wide electronic conveyancing system. PEXA enables the online exchange of property lodgments and property settlements in a simple transaction ranging from mortgages, mortgage discharges and transfers of ownership to settlements, caveats and notices.
  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions began working with 25 clients on new large-scale IT initiatives that leverage its HIPAA-ready cloud, advanced data networks, and mobile technologies to modernize the clients’ operations in the U.S.
  • Avianet, a German-based provider of managed IT and consulting services for the aviation and related industries, launched A-Cloud, a white-labeled service that leverages Verizon’s enterprise cloud computing platform. Through the creation of a strategic collaboration with Verizon, Avianet was able to create a cloud service tailored to meet the requirements of its customer base, while avoiding the time and expense in creating a service from scratch.

Security

  • United States Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew visited Verizon’s campus in Ashburn, Va. to highlight the importance of cybersecurity to financial institutions. Meeting with Verizon’s cybersecurity experts in the newly renovated Executive Briefing Center, Secretary Lew received a first-hand look at Verizon’s state-of-the-art Security Operations Center, global IP Network Operations Center and enterprise technology Solutions Center all housed within the Northern Virginia building.
  • To help alleviate the overwhelming reliance on user name and passwords, Verizon developed QR code login with its Universal Identity Services, allowing users to quickly scan a QR code on a participating website with their smartphone to gain access to the site or application; no user name or password is required.

Cloud

  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions released a new service model and a set of features and functionality for the company’s cloud infrastructure and storage platform, designed to help enterprises move business critical workloads into the cloud. Verizon Cloud now includes a variety of services tiers, onboarding and workload migration services, seamless integration with third-party cloud services and several deployment options ranging from public cloud to private on-premise cloud.
  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions added Amazon Web Services (AWS) to its growing list of cloud services accessible via its Secure Cloud Interconnect (SCI) service, enabling clients to easily manage a multi-cloud environment that allows for dynamic bandwidth allocation, application performance throughput, quality of service and usage-based billing. With SCI, Verizon is removing many of the barriers that often affect enterprise cloud adoption, including scalability, control and flexibility.

Channel

  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions is expanding its channel program into Europe and enhancing its U.S. program to enable members to offer Verizon-branded, enterprise-class cloud, advanced mobility, strategic communications and intelligent networking solutions to an expanded list of clients.

Solutions

  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions announced it expects to launch Verizon Auto Share, a convenient and secure way for drivers to rent, experience and return cars and other vehicles. Using a car-sharing application on their smartphones or tablets, drivers can use the solution’s Scan & Go feature to gain access to a vehicle of their choice and drive it within minutes. Verizon Auto Share gives rental car companies, auto dealers and other organizations a new and easier way to get their customers going where they want to go, faster.
  • Verizon introduced Push to Talk Plus, ideal for use across multiple industries where instantaneous connections are needed to share information. Push to Talk Plus offers users a variety of feature-rich services over the nation’s largest and most reliable 4G LTE wireless network.
  • Verizon Digital Media Services introduced its global end-to-end broadcast solution as the first of several offerings targeted to the media and entertainment industries, providing the necessary tools to quickly and cost-effectively launch a premium multi-platform TV Everywhere service.
  • Using Verizon’s technology, kids and teens with Type 1 diabetes aged 7 to 17 participated in a clinical trial of an artificial pancreas at a diabetes summer camp in Boulder Creek, California. The University of Virginia’s Center for Diabetes Technology and the Stanford University School of Medicine conducted the trial.

Leadership

  • Christopher Formant, president of Verizon Enterprise Solutions, named George Fischer as senior vice president of global sales at Verizon Enterprise Solutions. In this role, Fischer is responsible for driving customer growth and increasing revenue through Verizon’s direct and indirect enterprise distribution channels across the North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.
  • Maggie Hallbach was named a vice president within Verizon Enterprise Solutions’ public sector markets organization, leading a nationwide team responsible for customer engagement and solutions development to address the increasingly complex requirements of state and local government, and education clients.
  • Adam Famularo recently joined Verizon Enterprise Solutions as the new vice president of global channels.
