While continuing to improve business processes to better anticipate the needs of customers, Verizon Enterprise Solutions provided intelligent networks, cloud, managed security and machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions to the world’s most innovative and successful companies in the U.S. and abroad in fourth-quarter 2012.
The organization saw one of its most significant M2M customer engagements during the final quarter of 2012, offered new solutions focused on solving customer problems in the areas of healthcare and security, and won recognition for its solutions around the globe. Significant customer wins in the quarter include The Coca-Cola Company, Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Ltd., Bridgestone Americas, Redbox and Shred-It. Highlights from the fourth-quarter include:
Customers
- Verizon Enterprise Solutions continued to demonstrate its globally-recognized information security capabilities when it took a lead role in partnership with multiple global financial institutions fighting the recent massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on their infrastructure, which was preventing customers from accessing the corporate websites or providing a significantly slowed response time. A professional services engagement with Verizon’s RISK team identified vulnerabilities in the companies’ current security operations and provided vigilance against additional attacks in the days and weeks that followed.
- Shred-It, the leading on-site document destruction company, enlisted Verizon Enterprise Solution to unify all of its network and communications operations across five continents to better serve its many customers around the world.
- A major retailer with hundreds of locations around the U.S. enlisted Verizon Professional Services experts to assist with a comprehensive rebuild of its network and IT infrastructure that will allow the company to enhance the customer shopping experience by offering innovative services such as mobile point-of-sale from the showroom floors.
- A leading manufacturer of construction equipment will deploy fleet management tools and machine-to-machine technologies to enhance performance, production, safety and maintenance of its large fleet around the world.
- As the world's leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, CME Group is where the world comes to manage risk. CME Group expanded its longstanding relationship with Verizon under a new three-year agreement for Ethernet Virtual Private Line, Metro Wave, web hosting, Internet and professional services. CME Group, a strategic customer and partner in the Verizon Financial Network and ultra-low latency service between Chicago and New York continues to rely on Verizon for advanced communications and IT solutions to operate more efficiently and fuel new business opportunities for customers of its Chicagoland data center.
- Verizon Enterprise Solutions played a critical role in helping The Weather Company provide the best experience to its viewers during Superstorm Sandy, providing significant scale with network capacity, data centers and security services in the days leading up to and throughout the storm.
- A major photography company will begin using a multi-faceted solution including leveraging the Verizon Terremark cloud for more efficient storage and retrieval of the large data files that traverse their network operations daily.
- A leading global shipping and business services company will deploy mobile terminals and ground scanners to help serve customers better and deliver packages on time.
- One of the largest financial institutions – with offices in more than three dozen countries – turned to Verizon for a global enterprise mobility solution to enable secure and ready access to corporate information for its employees worldwide.
- The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Ltd. (HSH), one of Asia’s leading hospitality groups, selected a Verizon Terremark enterprise cloud computing solution to consolidate and centralize its technology infrastructure and better support its customers.
- State and local government agencies, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, libraries, and nonprofit organizations across the U.S. will continue to have access to a broad array of advanced communications and information technology solutions under a renewed agreement between Verizon and MiCTA, a nationwide group-purchasing organization.
- With more than 42,000 Redbox kiosks nationwide – averaging more than 58 million rentals per month in Q3 2012 – machine-to-machine technology continues to be critical to Redbox’s business model to create a superior consumer experience. The technology provided by Verizon Enterprise Solutions enables Redbox’s rent-and-return anywhere capabilities, ensures high up time across its kiosk platform and enables real-time web and mobile reservations for millions of consumers each month.
Solutions
- A team of leading online-identity and technology providers, led by Criterion Systems and including Verizon, was awarded a federal grant to develop a pilot program to test new solutions that will create a seamless, more secure online identity system. Secure Online Identity Solutions to Help Enhance Internet Safety will help enhance the protection of Internet users from identity theft and cybercrime.
- Managed UC&C for Microsoft Lync Server 2010 enables businesses to more easily adopt advanced communications and collaboration throughout their organizations while leaving the service and infrastructure management to Verizon.
- Virtual Communications Express, a new, multi-featured communications system designed for the small and medium-sized business market, allows small and medium-sized businesses to tap the same kinds of advanced collaboration tools and capabilities as large enterprises.
- Expansion of Enterprise Mobility as a Service, providing comprehensive support for business customers managing and securing a wide variety of applications, access options and devices.
- A comprehensive cloud and data center infrastructure portfolio specifically designed to help the healthcare industry meet the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for safeguarding electronic protected health information.

- Placing in the Leaders Quadrant in Gartner’s new report, “Magic Quadrant for Asia/Pacific Network Service Providers” for the sixth consecutive year

- For the fifth consecutive year, Frost & Sullivan Australia recognized Verizon for its leadership in the Australian managed security services market. The company was awarded the 2012 Frost & Sullivan Australia Excellence Award for Managed Security Service Provider of the Year, one of the analyst firm's annual Best Practice Awards.
- Hughes Telematics’ In-Drive® solution won a Stevie® Award for Tech Innovation of the Year. The Stevie Awards are presented by the American Business Awards and conferred by industry experts to recognize achievements in business.
