  • WHAT: Done in collaboration with the U.S. Secret Service, the Verizon 2010 Data Breach Investigations Report offers readers unprecedented insights into the state of cybercrime. Key findings from the report demonstrate that breaches of electronic records last year involved more insider threats, greater use of social engineering and the continued strong involvement of organized criminal groups.

    In addition to sharing key takeaways from the report, each speaker will offer recommendations based on the report findings, tailored to each audience.

BACKGROUND:
In addition to his role as vice president of technology and enterprise innovation for Verizon Business, Peter Tippett is also the chief scientist of the security product testing and certification organization, ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business. An information security pioneer, Tippett has led the computer security industry for more than 20 years. He is widely credited with helping create the first commercial anti-virus product that later became Norton AntiVirus.

Wade Baker is the creator, author and primary analyst for the Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report series. He oversees the collection and analysis of data relevant to understanding and managing information risk, which is used to create and enhance Verizon solutions, inform employees and clients, and publish credible research to the security community.

The Verizon Business 2010 Data Breach Investigations Report, based on a first-of-its kind collaboration with the U.S. Secret Service, offers an expanded view of data breaches over the last six years. With the addition of Verizon’s 2009 caseload and data contributed by the Secret Service -- which investigates financial crimes -- the report covers 900-plus breaches involving more than 900 million compromised records.
