From smartphone and fitness accessory giveaways to a donation to a local domestic violence shelter, we recently made a splash in Parkersburg, WV with the opening of our first Smart Store in the area.

On Wednesday, May 20, residents were invited to experience a new way of discovering technology with the mobile lifestyle in mind at the new Verizon Wireless Smart Store located at 802 Grand Central Mall, Vienna, WV.

To officially commemorate the new store, residents attended a grand opening celebration on May 23, which included a $2,500 donation to the Family Crisis Intervention Center of Parkersburg. The center provides domestic violence outreach services, a shelter, individual counseling, legal advocacy, a support group, parenting classes and more to the Parkersburg area.

We also kicked off a month-long HopeLine from Verizon phone drive at the store, during which we will donate $5 to the Center for every phone collected.

Attendees at the grand opening could also register to win one of two smartphones.

The celebration of the new store continues on Saturday, May 30 with a Golden Ticket event. The first 100 customers in the door will receive a scratch-off ticket. Ten of those tickets will be “golden tickets,” and the lucky recipients will win sports and fitness smart accessories.

We’ve launched our new Smart Store designs to make shopping for wireless devices and service more convenient and personalized. The redesigned stores feature products in mobile lifestyle zones, which include:

  • Get Fit – tech gear for the active sports and fitness buff
  • Amplify It – numerous Bluetooth speakers and more for the music aficionado
  • Have Fun – smart toys, games and wireless gaming accessories for the family
  • Home and On The Go – devices for home monitoring and energy management
  • Anywhere Business – technology for the mobile professional and entrepreneur

We plan to convert our entire fleet of 1,700 communications stores into Smart Stores over the next few years. Verizon Wireless store representatives now use tablets to assist customers with sales and service. Representatives are able to spend more time with customers with the barrier of the cash register or counter eliminated. We are also integrating systems to make it easy for customers to do business with us across all contact points – online, in store and through telesales.
