Verizon’s Cloud Platform for Public Sector Now Available on Two Additional Federal Contracts

Departments and agencies across the U.S. federal government can now purchase Verizon Enterprise Solutions’ Enterprise Cloud: Federal Edition on Networx Universal and Enterprise and Washington Interagency Telecommunications System 3, or WITS 3.

Verizon’s FedRAMP-certified cloud-computing platform for the public sector is already available on the GSA IT Schedule 70, as well as blanket-purchase agreements managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of the Interior.

“We are enabling greater ease of commerce, as well as enhanced customer choice and flexibility by extending the availability of our cloud offerings to additional contracts,” said Michael Maiorana, senior vice president of public sector markets, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “Networx and WITS 3 are among our most widely used federal contracts and the addition of our cloud platform will help streamline the purchasing process. Government agencies can now obtain their cloud, networking, cybersecurity and professional consulting services from a single procurement vehicle that is both comprehensive and familiar.”

Accelerating Demand for Public Sector Cloud Services

The Verizon State of the Market: Enterprise Cloud 2014 report underscores the accelerating demand for cloud services across the public sector. The report found that 65 percent of enterprises, including government agencies, are now using cloud technology, services and solutions as part of their IT infrastructure. It also found that 71 percent of Verizon cloud customers are using cloud for mission-critical applications, up from 60 percent in 2013.

Enterprise Cloud: Federal Edition, which in Nov. 2014 received Authority to Operate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, is an infrastructure-as-a-service cloud offering as defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Available in multitenant and dedicated configurations, the service addresses the security, reliability and flexibility requirements of government agencies and their mission-critical workloads.

The service is delivered from Verizon’s federal data centers in Culpeper, Virginia, and Miami. Featuring multiple layers of redundancy — facility, security, power, HVAC — these hardened data centers are designed to meet or exceed government criteria for physical and environmental controls. They are under continuous physical and virtual surveillance, and are protected by round-the-clock guards.
