What's Trending in Retail?

Verizon recently outlined its view on the key enterprise technology trends  likely to impact its customers in 2014. From the customer of one to machine-to-machine as a service; how the shortage of security expertise will change cybersecurity management to the decentralization of IT; and finally why providers are focusing on adding software and services to the cloud, adding gravity and encouraging user stickiness, Verizon thinks 2014 will be all about how enterprises and Governments are using technology to enhance the customer’s experience and enable innovation.

But what do our customers think? We recently outlined how Verizon is working to help Tesco migrate to a single global network infrastructure, which will underpin Tesco’s ongoing application and infrastructure centralization program. Here, Tesco’s Tomas Kadlec outlines his view of how technology will impact Tesco’s customers in the coming months, and some of the specific projects Tesco is undertaking to, for example, bring the omnichannel experience to life.

Tomas Kadlec is the Group Infrastructure IT Director for Tesco, one of the world’s largest online grocery retailers and the UK’s largest retailers, as well as the world’s third largest retailer. A Prague engineering graduate, Tomas has played a number of leadership roles in technology management over 20 years, the last 15 years of which are in the retail sector in different countries.

Current responsibilities include leading the international team including designing and building the Enterprise class technology platform to integrate the different parts of Tesco group including Retail, online and the bank.

He has most recently globalized Tesco’s organization and technology platform. This includes building one truly global team for desktop/collaboration, network, and a consolidated data center with strong central support management and monitoring framework.

Tomas Kadlec also spoke about the importance of technology to Tesco overall, and his experience of working with Verizon here. You can also find about more about Tesco’s multichannel retail strategy here.
