TOKYO - 2 October 2000 - MCI WorldCom Japan Ltd. ["WorldCom", Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Vinod Kumar] and Cisco Systems K.K. ["Cisco", Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Yasuki Kurosawa] today announce an agreement to sell WCOM-CISCO METRONET, a package combining Cisco's routers and WorldCom's Metro Data services.
WCOM-CISCO METRONET includes router selection, installation, management and support, data services, Internet access services and network management. This combination offers the high-speed broadband Internet and data services required by business clients in a single convenient package. UUNET Japan ["UUNET", Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Itsuo Sugiyama], a WorldCom Company, will provide Internet access services.
Sales of WCOM-CISCO METRONET will be handled mainly by Cisco's distributor, SOFTBANK Commerce from October 1st. Customer service will be handled by UUNET. WCOM-CISCO METRONET was designed for businesses occupying buildings currently connected to WorldCom's fiber-optic networks.
WorldCom has established its own fiber-optic networks and fixed wireless access services* covering Tokyo's Chuo, Chiyoda, Minato, and Shinjuku wards and Osaka's Chuo and Nishi wards. WorldCom continues to expand its networks in Japan. The Superloop is scheduled for completion by the end of this year and will provide connectivity to more buildings located in central Tokyo business districts around the Oedo line. WorldCom's Metro Data line of products feature high-speed broadband data services over WorldCom's wholly-owned fiber optic networks.
