WorldCom Group Reduces Workforce

CLINTON, Miss., April 3, 2002 - WorldCom group (NASDAQ: WCOM) today announced that it is reducing 3,700 of its U.S.-based staff positions - six (6) percent of WorldCom group's workforce or four (4) percent of WorldCom, Inc.'s overall workforce. The MCI group is not affected by this reduction. The Company said the reduction is being taken to better align its costs with its projected 2002 revenue guidance of mid-single digit growth - guidance given in February 2002.

WorldCom said the reduction is being realized across the organization and all affected employees will receive a severance package relative to their duration of service with the Company.
