WorldCom Provides Special Holiday Services and Savings for American Armed Forces Personnel and Families

CLINTON, Miss., December 21, 2001 - In an effort to support U.S. Armed Forces during the holiday season, WorldCom, (NASDAQ: WCOM), the leading global business data and Internet communications provider, is making resources, technology and employee support available around the world for military personnel and their families. Beginning today, WorldCom will provide free call connections, issue prepaid calling cards and reduce calling rates in an effort to bring military families, friends and loved ones together this holiday season.

"WorldCom is proud to provide continued support to members of America's armed forces and their families, especially during the holiday season," said Jerry Edgerton, senior vice president of WorldCom Government Markets. "WorldCom is dedicated to meeting the needs of the U.S. military and is proud to offer our assistance this holiday season to those men and women defending our country in the U.S. and abroad."

As part of its continued support for the Marine Corps personnel stationed in Okinawa and Camp Fuji Japan, WorldCom will lower its rates 10 percent from December 21 to January 2 for telephone calls placed to the United States. Many of the service men and women in Japan have been involved in the U.S. military efforts in the war against terrorism.

In an effort to help those military troops traveling through and stationed in the Atlanta area, WorldCom has provided free pre-paid calling cards. These calling cards will enable troops to make free local, long distance and international calls from anywhere in the United States.

For those service members in the field, WorldCom will complete Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) calls for free. Service members located around the globe, using single channel radio to the states, will be able to place these calls.
