WorldCom to Support Communications Services in Afghanistan

CLINTON, Miss., June 06, 2002 - WorldCom (NASDAQ: WCOM), the leading global business data and Internet communications provider, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Telephone Systems International, a New York-based privately held communications company, to provide long distance transport services via satellite links to Telephone Systems' affiliate in Afghanistan, Afghan Wireless Communications Company.

The agreement allows Afghan Wireless to connect its mobile GSM network in Kabul to other city networks now under construction in Afghanistan, as well as to international points. Afghan Wireless expects to be operating in five major cities within a few months. WorldCom is managing satellite links and providing VSAT (very small aperture terminal) technology to support both voice and data service.

Additionally, as a result of the agreement, WorldCom has introduced a new, competitively priced calling plan for calls to Afghanistan from the United States. Effective July 2, 2002, direct dial calls to Afghanistan will be 38 cents per minute for those who chose or are already on the WorldCom International Plus calling plan. To receive the new rate, customers should contact WorldCom at 1-800-444-3333 and request the WorldCom International Plus plan.
