UUNET Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned operating subsidiary of MFS Communications Company, Inc., and the world's largest Internet services provider, today announced that it has become the sole owner of EUnet Deutschland GmbH. UUNET purchased a 40% interest in EUnet Deutschland earlier this year and now has acquired the remaining 60 percent for approximately $12 million in cash from Mannesmann Eurokom GmbH and Gesellschaft fuer Finanzmarketing mbH.
John Sidgmore, chief executive officer of UUNET, stated, "We are very pleased to own EUnet Deutschland. This acquisition completes another step in our plan to provide Internet access worldwide through leading providers in their markets."
EUnet Deutschland is headquartered in Dortmund, Germany and provides a comprehensive range of Internet services. It currently has 36 POPs in Germany and provides the network infrastructure and Internet access for The Microsoft Networktm in Germany.
