Verizon coordinated the event in conjunction with Jersey Cares, a nonprofit organization that works to increase civic engagement and to coordinate volunteer opportunities.

The volunteers spent the morning at the school, mentoring the students and working with them to build solar-powered model race cars.

“Verizon employees have a long history of giving back to our communities, and this was a great service project that the employees and the students enjoyed very much,” said Melody Brown, national program director for the Verizon Foundation.

Verizon offers programs that actively encourage employees to volunteer their time, no matter how big or small the commitment. These programs also help connect employees with volunteer opportunities within key focus areas of health care, education and energy management.
