Tech Helps Future Farmers of America Reporter at National Convention

It’s very clear that technology is ever persistent in today’s world, including the world of agribusiness. Serving as the Kentucky FFA Association Reporter, technology played a vital role in helping me keep social media up to date as a record-breaking 62,998 FFA members, advisors and guests traveled this year to Louisville, KY for the 86th National FFA Convention and Expo.
And that was only a small portion of our membership, as FFA is the world’s largest student-lead organization, with 579,678 members who are part of 7,750 chapters in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
This year, I had the opportunity to serve as a voting delegate for the Convention, and Verizon Wireless loaned me an HTC One to use. Leading up to Convention week, delegates arrived early, and I used the HTC One to post on social media and inform the members, alumnus and general public interested in our FFA organization about the preparation taken for Convention week. I was also able to connect with the more than 400 other delegates from across the organization.
Once Convention week started, it was full speed ahead! From keeping up to date with the National Career Developments events, keynote sessions and retiring addresses from our National Officer Team, to just connecting with what Kentucky FFA Members had to say about the Convention, there was always something to post on social media. National Convention week is always one of my favorite weeks of my FFA Career.
Along with my year of service for State Office, I am still an active college student. With that comes assignments that are due during the Convention. With everything on my plate as a delegate, reporter and member, I barely had any down time for homework, so I had to use whatever time I had, whether it was while anticipating an upcoming keynote speaker or waiting for the next business session to begin. The HTC One hotspot enabled me to connect not only myself, but also other state officers, to the Verizon Wireless network so we could work on assignments and still get them in on time.
My experience at the Convention wouldn't have been the same without technology!
