Verizon returns to DistribuTECH 2017, the annual electric power transmission and distribution conference and expo, to demonstrate ‘smart’ business and technology solutions aimed at accelerating grid modernization, enabling secure, efficient, safe and affordable energy infrastructure solutions, and improving the customer experience. The conference opens today at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.

“Competitive pressures such as rising costs, cyber security threats, regulatory compliance challenges, institutional knowledge gaps due to retiring workers, and integration of renewable and sustainable energies continue to disrupt the energy and utilities industries,” said Michael Brander, managing director of IoT for Energy and Utilities with Verizon.  “IoT-enabled intelligent solutions for connecting cities and communities are igniting a digital transformation — reinventing traditional business models and helping to solve challenges.”

Visitors to Verizon’s booth (#1731 ) can  speak with industry experts and experience demonstrations of the company’s leading technology solutions for the energy and utilities industry including:

  • Verizon Grid Wide Utility solutions now bolstered with Demand Response (DR) capabilities: A cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) platform service offering utility organizations an easy, secure and reliable on-ramp to grid modernization. Grid Wide offers an integrated as-a-service solution for smart metering, demand response, meter data management and distribution monitoring and control. Verizon Grid Wide customers can now leverage DR capabilities which can even out supply and demand to help avoid brown out conditions and reduce energy usage.
  • Telogis’ mobile resource management (MRM) software platform: Strengthening Verizon’s industry-leading telematics portfolio, Telogis is a recognized market leader in MRM solutions, bringing a world-class software platform and strong network of distribution partnerships. MRM software is a powerful tool for measuring the productivity of vehicles and equipment while helping to keep crews safe while in transit and on the job. Capabilities include smarter scheduling, improved asset management for helping with capacity planning, and the ability to turn large volumes of vehicle and job-specific data into actionable operation plans.
  • Sensity Systems’ Lighting Management portfolio: Enhancing Verizon’s leading Smart Communities IoT portfolio, Sensity Sytems offers LED-based ‘smart lighting’ solutions, assisting utility and public works organizations with the operation, management and maintenance of public lighting infrastructures. Sensity Systems capitalizes on conversions to LED lighting – a process that will affect an estimated four billion lights worldwide over the next few years – to create a high-speed, sensor-based, multiservice IoT platform. Sensity now has 42 smart city installations across the globe that have enabled facility and municipal lighting owners to link energy efficiency and cost savings to the improvement of business goals such as public safety, parking control, asset management and analytics.

“As a trusted and reliable technology partner with global capabilities and industry expertise, Verizon is working closely with our energy and utilities customers to drive meaningful change and build sustainable business models,” Brander added.
