Jan. 28 marks the eighth annual Data Privacy Day. According to the National Cyber Security Alliance, the occasion focuses on "Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data and Enabling Trust." The National Cyber Security Alliance leads the day and works to help consumers understand how to better protect their personal online information. The group also encourages businesses to be transparent with usage, collection, and protection of customer information.
To mark the occasion, our friends at the National Cyber Security Alliance have made two infographics regarding best practices in safeguarding information for consumers and businesses. To further spread awareness, here are three great tips from the National Cyber Security Alliance to help individuals protect their data:
- Personal Information is Like Money: Value and Protect It: Switch on two-step verification or multifactor authentication wherever offered to prevent unauthorized access.
- The Golden Rule Applies Online: Post only about others as you would have them post about you.
- What You Post Can Last a Lifetime: Before posting online, think about how it might be perceived now and in the future and who might see it.
