WASHINGTON, DC and NEW YORK, May 1, 2015 – Both companies issued the following statement:
Cogent (NASDAQ: CCOI) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) have entered into a long-term, bilateral commercial interconnection agreement related to their public IP networks. The interconnection agreement ensures customers on the two networks can continue to exchange data in an effective and efficient manner.
As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, Internet service providers are negotiating business agreements that allow exchange of Internet traffic in a scalable, resilient and reliable manner. Focusing on the customer, this agreement allows consumers of both Cogent and Verizon to enjoy high-performance speeds to enable new, high-bandwidth applications.
The agreement contains provisions to add capacity and establish new interconnection locations between the two networks to stay ahead of growing traffic demands. The agreement also includes new connections for Verizon Digital Media Services' content delivery network to connect to Cogent's network globally, further improving quality for Verizon's CDN customers and Cogent's customers. This approach offers flexibility for each network while improving performance and reliability for the customers of both.
