Wisconsin Store Manager with Former Packers Player Antonio Freeman and Former Wisconsin Badger Al Toon

As a sponsor of the NFL and the Green Bay Packers, Verizon Wireless wanted to do something special to commemorate the start of the NFL season. With the help of a few former players, HopeLine phone drives were held in Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay to help raise awareness about domestic violence.

In each location, people were encouraged to donate no-longer-used wireless phones during a three-day period. For each phone donated, Verizon Wireless donated $10 to a local domestic violence shelter. Benefiting organizations are UMOS Latina Resource Center (Milwaukee), the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence (Madison) and Harbor House (Green Bay).

To help kick off the drives, former NFL players were recruited in each city to lend a hand.

On hand to assist in Milwaukee and Green Bay was former Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers player, LeRoy Butler. He chatted up guests, telling them about how much he loves Verizon Wireless because of the reliable network and thanked them for their contribution.

In Madison, not only did former Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers player, Antonio Freeman, lend a hand, Al Toon, former Wisconsin Badger and New York Jet, also joined the effort. Badger fans enjoyed talking football with Toon, especially aksing about his son, Nick, a current player for the Badgers.

Overall, the events helped spread the word about our award-winning HopeLine program and generated additional dollars for domestic violence prevention organizations in Wisconsin communities.
