Meet Soccer Great Carlos 'El Pibe' Valderrama at FiOS Events in Advance of Futbol's Biggest Event

Watching live sports at least 10 minutes a day has become the norm for the average TV owner. It’s actually not uncommon for rabid sports fans, particularly those with smart phones and tablets, to soak up more than four hours of live sports in a day.

More than two times as many Borderless Lifestyle consumers prefer watching live sporting events versus movies on TV or other devices. It’s simply the nature of the fan that when the game is on the line, we want to watch the action real time.

And now, as the world’s most anticipated international soccer tournament nears next month in Brazil, the feeding frenzy surely will spike higher than a Pele bicycle kick or the floppy mop top of Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama.

Soccer’s Big Event is Truly Mundial

Given the enormous popularity of soccer among Latinos, the 64 matches to be played in Brazil between June 12 and July 13 are expected to find many Latinos watching more TV than normal, and that’s where Verizon seeks to feed the passion.

Tapping into the anticipation of soccer’s grand stage, we’ve launched “Estadio Verizon,” an umbrella campaign that unites many initiatives including in-person events, digital, social media and free video content previews to respond to the unique interests of Latinos.

Leading up to the matches in Brazil, we’ll help soccer fans enjoy the full experience of the games’ grandest event -- all from the comfort of their home.

Starting this weekend, we’ll host five shopping mall events for soccer fans that place visitors in a stadium atmosphere featuring an interactive soccer game, customized stadium scoreboard, trivia games and soccer-themed Plinko board to win Verizon soccer-themed prizes.

The mall tour, hosted by bilingual Verizon staff, will showcase Verizon’s flagship FiOS and 4G LTE mobile services.  This weekend’s first Estadio Verizon (Verizon Stadium) event takes place Saturday and Sunday afternoons (May 10, 11) at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst, NY.

Chance to Meet Valderrama and Win Prizes with Estadio Verizon

During the next four weekends, more Estadio Verizon events will occur at shopping malls in Tampa, Florida; Irving, Texas outside Dallas; Wheaton, Maryland north of Washington, DC; and Downey, California southeast of Los Angeles.  El Pibe will be on hand at four of the events to talk about all things soccer.

Within the soccer-themed display, visitors can learn about Verizon’s video offerings including our La Connexion and Spanish Language Packages that offer customized content for Latinos and others who seek more Spanish-language programming.

To keep up with pre-tournament news, and register to win soccer-related prizes, visit our Somos Verizon FiOS Facebook page and follow our Spanish language Twitter feed @SomosFiOS.

Given that the international soccer tournament takes place every four years and is the  biggest athletic viewing event in the world for Latinos , we’re showcasing ways customers can enjoy the matches on FiOS TV, plus offering a free preview of our Spanish Language Package.

The Spanish Language Package is currently offered at 50 percent of its normal monthly price of $14.99 per month for TV customers that need extended Spanish-language content. In addition, we’re offering a free preview May 12-18 of most of the sports, family and kids, novelas and entertainment channels featured on the Spanish Language Package. So check it out.
