AMERITECH, BELL ATLANTIC TO SHARE NAME AND NUMBER
FOR CALLER ID ON LONG-DISTANCE CALLS

Chicago, IL/Arlington, VA -- Customers of Ameritech and Bell
Atlantic
soon will be able to receive name as well as number information for
long-distance calls originating from the Midwestern and mid-Atlantic
regions served by the two companies.

Caller ID customers nationwide have been receiving number information
only for long-distance calls originating in many parts of the United
States since Dec. 1.

Some telephone companies, including Ameritech and Bell Atlantic,
already provide name information for calls within their own service
territories. This name information is available to Ameritech
customers who subscribe to Caller ID with name and Bell Atlantic
customers who have Caller ID Deluxe.

By March 1, Ameritech and Bell Atlantic will begin sharing Caller ID
name information. As a result, their customers will see the caller's
phone number and the name associated with it when calls originate
within the other company's territory.

In a joint statement, Mendel Hamrick, director of new-product
development at Ameritech and Margaret Gardner, director of value-added
services at Bell Atlantic said: "We're pleased to be able to offer
our customers an enhancement that will give them more of the Caller ID
information they're looking for from even more areas of the country.
They told us they want it. Now, we're providing it, helping to make
this highly popular service even more valuable."

Ameritech and Bell Atlantic are the second among the regional Bell
operating companies (RBOCs) to share name as well as number
information. Ameritech and US WEST were the first RBOCs to do so in
December. Ameritech and Bell Atlantic said they expect to negotiate
similar sharing agreements with other companies in the months ahead.

Residential customers of Ameritech can order Caller ID by calling
1-800-709-LINK .

(1-800-709-5465). Business customers of Ameritech can order the
service by calling 1-800-PROFITS (1-800-776-3487).

Residential and business customers of Bell Atlantic can order Caller
ID Deluxe by calling their local Bell Atlantic business office. The
company is currently offering new residential subscribers a credit on
their phone bill which can be applied to the purchase of a Caller ID
display unit.
