PHILADELPHIA -- Bell Atlantic Mobile, the first "Official Corporate
Partner" of the American Cancer Society in Southeastern Pennsylvania,
today presented the Society with a check for $45,000 during the
planting of a "Garden of Hope," at the Saul School in Philadelphia.
This donation represents the second half of Bell Atlantic Mobile's
two-year commitment to the organization.

Bell Atlantic Mobile employees, including the company's Regional
President John Stratton, joined the American Cancer Society and
students at the Saul School today to plant a "Garden of Hope" on the
school grounds, as a celebration of the Society's Daffodil Days
initiative this month.

"As Bell Atlantic Mobile's new regional president, I'm personally
proud to help plant this year's Garden of Hope for the American Cancer
Society," said Stratton. "We will continue to direct our resources to
the cause and we hope that others will join us."
The garden of daffodils will not only help to beautify the school, but
also remind the community of the importance of Daffodil Days and the
cause of the American Cancer Society.

In addition to the cash contribution, Stratton presented the Saul
School , a Philadelphia public high school dedicated to educating urban
students about the arts and sciences of agriculture, with three Bell
Atlantic Mobile pre-paid wireless phones and service. The phones will
be used when agricultural classes visit Wissahickon Creek in Fairmont
Park to plant trees or clean trails, allowing teachers to maintain
contact with the school in the case of student injuries or other safety

Randy Linduff, regional vice president of the American Cancer Society
noted that "Bell Atlantic Mobile has been a valuable partner to us
over the past year, and we look forward to continuing the relationship
in the years to come. The financial contribution the company has
made, as well as its ability to mobilize resources and reach consumers
in the Delaware Valley, has been, and will continue to be, a
tremendous boost in our efforts to make a difference in the health of
Greater Philadelphians."

The American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days are held each year as a
celebration of hope and as a reminder that cancer is survivable. This
year, Daffodil Days are being held from March 16 - 22. People who
wish to purchase Daffodils should call 215-JOIN-ACS.
