Bell Atlantic plans to add about 120 positions in its residence
sales and service centers in New Jersey by the end of July.

A dramatic surge in demand for new telephone lines and other services
from home telephone customers is behind the need for the additional
customer service staff. Call volumes are up 36 percent in the
state for the first six months of 1996 compared with the previous
year.

"We want to get the word out that we're looking for qualified
applicants so we can fill these jobs as quickly as possible,"
said Len Lauer, Bell
Atlantic-New Jersey president. "We're
absolutely committed to providing the best service possible for
our customers, and right now we need more people on our team to
do that."

Interested individuals may call 1-800-737-1877 toll-free 24 hours
a day, seven days a week to be considered for the available positions.

Companywide, Bell Atlantic has more than 500 job openings for
sales/service consultants in its residence sales and service centers.

Consultants handle requests from new or existing customers for
installation, changes in telephone service or disconnection. They
also sell Bell Atlantic telephone services to customers as well
as handle billing and other problems.

Starting wages are $350 weekly, although those with substantial
customer sales and service experience may begin at a higher rate.
Within three years, consultants can reach the top wage rate of
$716 per week.

Applicants must take several tests to determine their ability
to handle customer phone calls. They must speak English clearly,
be able to operate a computer terminal and be willing to work
days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Applicants for positions
in the Elizabeth, N.J. office also must be fully conversant in
Spanish. Individuals who qualify for the sales consultant positions
will receive company-paid training.
