"We want to get the word out that we're looking for qualified applicants so we can fill these jobs as quickly as possible," said William Harral, Bell Atlantic-Pennsylvania president. "We're absolutely committed to providing the best service possible for our customers, and right now we need more people on our staff to do that."

In the northeastern part of the state, applicants especially are needed in Scranton.
Sales consultants handle requests from new or existing customers for installation, changes in telephone service or disconnection. They also sell Bell Atlantic telephone services to customers as well as handle billing and other problems.
Starting wages are $337 weekly, although those with substantial customer sales and service experience may begin at a higher rate. Within three years, consultants can reach the top wage rate of $687.50 per week
Applicants must take several tests and assessments to determine their ability to handle customer phone calls. They must speak English clearly, be able to operate a computer terminal and be willing to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
