ALTOONA, Pa. -- Bell Atlantic is seeking applicants to work in
its new Competitive Call Center that will open soon in the downtown
Station Mall.

Applications for the position of carrier call representative are being
processed by the Blair County Job Center. Interested candidates may
inquire by calling 814-946-7185 or by visiting the job center at 1101
Green Avenue. Bell Atlantic needs approximately 55 people to fill
positions at the center. The center is one of several that handle operator-
assisted calls for customers of long distance companies.

Applicants will be subject to pre-employment testing.

The company completed work on the center recently, installing complex
computer systems and network connections necessary to complete calls
for other companies. Bell Atlantic has similar centers, which provide
operator services for other companies. Bell Atlantic operators in other
locations will continue to handle operator-assisted calls from the
company's local phone customers.

Bell Atlantic worked with the Altoona-Blair County Development Corp.
in selecting the site for the center.

Bell Atlantic is at the forefront of
the new communications and information industry. With more than 43
million telephone access lines and more than 10 million wireless
customers worldwide, Bell Atlantic companies are premier providers of
advanced wireline voice and data services, market leaders in wireless
services and the world's largest publishers of directory information. Bell
Atlantic companies are also among the world's largest investors in high-
growth global communications markets, with operations and investments
