Bronx, NY - In conjunction with the distribution of the 2000-2001 Bronx Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages, Bell Atlantic announced that it is conducting its 16th Internet Learning Day tomorrow at the Bronx Community College. The Bronx Internet Learning Day is part of Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages' ongoing Internet education series, which has introduced more than 3,000 people to the World Wide Web since 1997.
The Internet Learning Day will consist of hour-long sessions that introduce how the Web works, frequently-used vocabulary and community and career-focused Web sites. Each class participant will use a lab computer to gain hands-on experience surfing the Web. The classes are led by Bell Atlantic Internet Solutions instructors and volunteer trainers.
"As a leader in the community, Bell Atlantic strives to provide comprehensive and accurate information for residents and businesses," said Mary Jo Howe, vice president of marketing and customer care at Bell Atlantic Directory Group. "Bell Atlantic initiatives such as the Internet Learning Day help people who do not have access to Internet training to get started."
Saturday's Internet Learning Day event-expected to attract more than 150 participants-is co-sponsored by the Bronx Community College and a number of community-based organizations, including the East Side Community Center, Patterson Community Center, Bronx YMCA, Mind Builders Family Service Center and the United Way of New York City.
"The Internet Learning Day introduces residents of the community the invaluable resources of the World Wide Web, which are integral to succeed in today's marketplace," said Carol White, Special Assistant for Community and Public Relations, Bronx Community College. "The Bronx Community College is proud to be a sponsor of such an event."
Participants receive information on places they can access the Internet for free and ways to acquire a personal computer at a reduced cost. Each partipcant also receives a free copy of the Internet Learning Disc (ILDisc), which is an educational CD-ROM, commissioned by Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages, to help novice Internet users navigate the World Wide Web.
