ARLINGTON, Va. -- Want an easy and cost-effective way to make business calls from your home and bill them to your office or business? Bell Atlantic customers in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia now can do just that with the company's new Work at Home Billing Service. Bell Atlantic plans to make the service available throughout the mid-Atlantic region by the second half of this year.

"This new service is very convenient for people who work at home and it's a great way for businesses to save money," said Clyde Lew, manager of new product introduction for Bell Atlantic Small Business Services. "Work at Home Billing Service saves employees time they would otherwise spend identifying and filling out vouchers for business calls they make from home. It eliminates extra paperwork for businesses and offers an alternative to calling cards and costs associated with them."

Lew said the new billing service has other advantages for businesses. "Work at Home Billing Service is ideal for businesses that have telecommuters or others who work at home after normal business hours, but don't place enough calls to justify an additional phone line in their home," he said. "In addition, incoming business calls to an employee's home are identified by a distinctive ring, which helps employees to be more responsive and efficient," Lew said.

Here's how Work at Home Billing Service works: To make a business call from home, customers just need to dial *94. When they receive a second dial tone, they dial the number of the party they are calling. It's that easy.

Businesses that use the service select a long-distance company for their employees' calls. Each month, the business receives an itemized list of all business calls their employees make from home.

Work at Home Billing Service costs $4.50 per line monthly. There's a one-time charge to install the service, which ranges from $9 to $17 per line. Normal service order charges apply. Customers can get additional information about Bell Atlantic's Work at Home Billing Service by calling 1-800-884-8817.

Work at Home Billing Service is one of the first mass market applications that has been developed for Bell Atlantic's Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). AIN is one of the latest additions to Bell Atlantic's network architecture.
