ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Bell Atlantic - Maryland will
provide hands-on demonstrations of Internet access over its ISDN (Integrated
Services Digital Network) lines today at the annual Annapolis reception
hosted by Allegany County.
ISDN is a digital communications line that enables voice, data, video and
graphics to be sent over a single, ordinary telephone line at speeds up
to five times faster than typical dial-up capabilities.
At Allegany County's PACE '97 reception, participants will see firsthand
how ISDN enables them to quickly connect to the Internet - much faster
than current computer modems. Participants also will be able to interact
with state and local government home pages, as well as with those of
Allegany County businesses.
"Bell Atlantic is proud of our investments in Allegany County,"
said Daniel J.
Whelan, president and CEO of Bell Atlantic - Maryland. "We are
particularly pleased to have been a major player in getting western
Maryland on the information superhighway."
For 21 years, Allegany County has hosted this event during the Maryland
General Assembly's 90-day session. The reception, known as PACE
(Positive Attitudes Change Everything), is sponsored by The Greater
Allegany Business Foundation and is held in honor of the governor and
members of the Maryland House and Senate.
