PITTSBURGH, PA -- The corner of 5th & Smithfield in downtown Pittsburgh now has a new reason to be local shoppers' favorite meeting spot: Bell Atlantic Mobile today opened its newest Communications Store at the city's popular intersection.
"This is an ideal location for wireless shoppers. The 5th & Smithfield corner is a hub of retail activity, close to many office buildings and easily accessible by public transportation," said Roger Tang, regional vice president for Bell Atlantic Mobile in Pittsburgh. "We are excited to be part of the rebirth of the downtown shopping district, and look forward to providing downtown shoppers this added convenience when shopping for wireless service."
The new 1,000 square foot showroom provides a full range of wireless phone and data products and accessories. A staff of trained professionals can assist individuals selecting equipment, making decisions on calling plans or setting up the company's popular wireless Internet access service called Web Access. The store also has technicians available to test or repair equipment.
Shoppers can take advantage of a special service at this location through which Bell Atlantic Mobile will deliver phones and accessories to the customer's home or office, eliminating the need to wait for programming or testing, or carrying a package around town.
"A customer can choose to take their phone with them," Tang explained. "But downtown workers shopping on lunch hours, or hurrying to work or home, may want the extra advantage of our product delivery option."
Tang said the convenience of this location and proximity to other retail outlets was a key consideration in relocating to this spot from the company's PPG Place store, which closed January 15.
Jeffrey M. Daniels has been named manager of the new Communications Store. Daniels joined Bell Atlantic Mobile as a retail sales representative in 1994, was named assistant store manager later that year and has been a Communications Store Manager since 1996, most recently at the company's North Hills Communications Store. A 1987 graduate of North Hills High School, Daniels attended Colorado State University. He currently resides in Glenshaw.
Bell Atlantic Mobile owns and operates the largest wireless network in the East and systems in the Southwest, covering 216,000 square miles, and the largest chain of retail outlets devoted exclusively to wireless voice, data and paging. Based in Bedminster, NJ, Bell Atlantic Mobile has 7.7 million customers and 8,800 employees from Maine to Georgia and in parts of Arizona, New Mexico and west Texas. The company's Pittsburgh Regional Headquarters, located in Warrendale, has a local Customer Service Department dedicated to serving area residents.
