NEW YORK- In an effort to provide broadcasters with high-quality, seamless transmission for digital television transmission, Bell Atlantic is offering two new Digital Video Transport Services (DVTS), one running at 45 megabits per second (Mbps) and the other at 19.39 Mbps. Both services provide one-way, point-to-point, single channel broadcast video service.

"Our Digital Video Transport Services are state-of-the-art, cost effective services designed to deliver high-quality digital video transmission," said Janis M. Rothermel, product manager. "These solutions are ideal for transmitting live events and for supporting post-production houses looking to meet their clients' growing list of digital requirements."

The new product offerings complement Bell Atlantic's Serial Component Video Service (SCVS) which provides a 270 Mbps signal used for digital broadcasting for both part-time and full-time applications. Broadcasters can now transmit video signals in an all-digital format, from the camera that captures the image to the transmitter that delivers it, over Bell Atlantic's high capacity fiber-optic network.

Bell Atlantic DVTS at 45 Mbps is designed for transmitting and broadcasting video and audio signals between studios, as well as between studios and long distance providers that may carry the signals further. This service is an ideal solution for remote transmission of news, sports and special events.

The service is carried over fiber-optic facilities that have an electrical handoff at both ends and conform to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Digital Hierarchy.

Bell Atlantic's 19.39 Mbps DVTS is used mainly for studio-to-transmitter links, and provides high-quality transmission over fiber-optic facilities as defined in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Standard 310 M.

Customers can purchase DVTS for terms from 12-60 months with month-to-month rates available only after the three-month initial term is completed. Full- or part-time daily rates are available for DVTS 45 Mbps and SCVS. DVTS 19.39 Mbps is available as a full-time only rate.

Digital Video Transport Services and Serial Component Video Service are available throughout the Bell Atlantic region.
