Bell Atlantic & US West to Share Name and Number for Caller ID

BELL ATLANTIC, U S WEST COMMUNICATIONS TO SHARE NAME
AND NUMBER FOR CALLER ID ON LONG-DISTANCE CALLS

Arlington, VA/Denver, CO - Caller ID customers of Bell
Atlantic and U
S WEST Communications now can receive name as well as number
information for long-distance calls originating in the 20 states and
the District of Columbia served by the two companies.

Caller ID customers nationwide have been receiving number-only
information for long-distance calls originating in many parts of the
United States since Dec. 1.

Now, customers who subscribe to U S WEST's Caller ID service or Bell
Atlantic's Caller ID Deluxe service can see the caller's phone number
and the name to whom the number was issued on calls originating in the
other company's territory.

In a joint statement, Margaret Gardner, director of value-added
services at Bell Atlantic, and John Jackse, group product manager for
new-product development at U S WEST Communications, said: "The
Federal Communications Commission's decision to extend Caller ID to
long distance calls allowed us to meet our customers' request to have
Caller ID cover more calls. Now we can meet another top request from
Caller ID customers - to provide the name on long distance calls as
well as the number. Now this popular service is more useful than
ever."

Both Bell Atlantic and U S WEST Communications have announced similar
Caller ID information sharing agreements with other companies in
recent months and said they expect to negotiate additional agreements
with others in the future.

Residential and business customers of Bell Atlantic can order Caller
ID Deluxe by calling their local Bell Atlantic business office.

Residential customers of U S WEST Communications can order Caller ID
by calling 1-800-244-1111. Business customers of U S WEST can
order
the service by calling 1-800-603-6000.
