Bell Atlantic Business Education Partnership
Mini-Grants Program 1996
Bell Atlantic - Virginia Awards Technology Grants
to Schools
As part of its ongoing commitment to education, Bell Atlantic -
Virginia recently awarded technology grants totaling $50,000 to
fifteen public elementary and middle schools within its territory as a
result of their participation in Bell Atlantic's Business
Education
Partnership Mini-Grants Program.
These grants will be used by the schools to develop and implement
projects during the 1996-97 school year that will improve student
achievement in one or more of the following areas: literacy, dropout
prevention, technology, and/or math and science.
Bell Atlantic sent letters to nearly 1000 elementary and middle
schools in its territory earlier this year inviting them to
participate in this year's program. Of that number, over 140 schools
submitted proposals.
Award recipients were selected by a selection committee consisting of
representatives from Bell Atlantic and the size of the individual
grants were determined by the potential educational impact of the
grant proposals.
Since Bell Atlantic - Virginia began its Business Education
Partnership Mini-Grants Program last year, 26 elementary
and middle
schools around the state have received grants totaling $75,000.
