LEAVING BELL ATLANTIC
Wilmington, DE -- Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE:BEL)
today
announced that Carolyn S.
Burger, president and CEO of Bell
Atlantic-Delaware, is leaving the company in June 1996 to start her
own business consulting firm. No successor has been named.
Burger is leaving Bell Atlantic after more than 34 years service.

have absolutely loved my time with Bell Atlantic, particularly the
people with whom I've worked in Delaware," Burger said. "I am
equally
excited about my new opportunity, and I am eager to begin my second
career." Burger's consulting firm will specialize in three specific
areas: regulation and legislation, information technology deployment
for senior teams, and assisting high potential women achieve senior
level positions in major corporations.

As president of Bell Atlantic-Delaware, Burger is widely recognized as
a business and civic leader and has actively supported economic
development and education initiatives in Delaware. She chairs the
Delaware Business Roundtable and serves on the board of directors of
Wilmington Trust Company, Betz Laboratories, Brandywine Conservancy,
WHYY, Inc, and the Delaware Community Foundation.
During her tenure as president, Burger also served on the boards of
GDE Systems, Inc., The Philadelphia Orchestra Association, the Balch
Institute of Ethnic Studies and Delaware State Chamber of Commerce
Executive Committee. She was the first winner of the Distinguished
Alumnae award at her alma mater, Wilson College.
Burger was elected president and CEO of Bell Atlantic-Delaware in May
1991. She is one of the few women to head a Bell telephone company.
Burger began her telephone career at Bell of Pennsylvania in 1962 as a
management trainee. During her career there, she served as in a
variety of positions in the operations and regulatory departments.
In February 1985, Burger was promoted to assistant vice president,
revenue requirements for the former Diamond State Telephone Company
and Bell of Pennsylvania. In November 1986, she moved to Bell
Atlantic Network Services, Inc. as assistant vice president -
economics research and finance. In May 1988, Burger was promoted to
vice president, secretary and treasurer of Bell Atlantic Corporation,
where she served until assuming her current responsibilities.
