Achieves Dual Customer Care Accolades

PHILADELPHIA -- Bell Atlantic's key Italian investment, Omnitel
Pronto Italia, won two accolades in June for its standard-setting customer
service, demonstrating the company's success in bringing a customer-
centric approach to the Italian market.
In taking first place in Teleperformance's Grand Prix Customer Service,
and being nominated for the prestigious Customer Satisfaction Award 1998
from Arthur Andersen and leading Italian financial newspaper Il Sole 24
Ore, Omnitel has proven its customer service procedures are among the
best in Europe. The Grand Prix Customer Service award recognizes
Omnitel as having the best customer service standards in Italy -- a measure
of how quickly the company has claimed leadership in this area. Omnitel
was the only telecommunications company in Europe to win the award last
year.
The award also shows how valuable the transfer of knowledge from Bell
Atlantic -- one of the world's largest mobile operators - has been to the
development of a company still only in its third year of service. A team
from Bell Atlantic International Wireless [BAIW] worked with Omnitel
during its startup phase to design a model for customer service based on
successful Bell Atlantic investments in the U.S. and around the world. The
BAIW team continues to play a key role in Omnitel's customer operations.
The Teleperformance Awards, now in their tenth year, identify the quality
of customer care delivered by businesses across Europe. Ratings are based
on blind calls to customer call centers, using both objective and subjective
criteria to determine how quick, efficient, and friendly a company is in
responding to a variety of customer requests.
Other first-place winners of this year's Teleperformance award include
DHL, FedEx, and Citibank Visa.
Bell Atlantic is one of the world's largest wireless communications
companies, with domestic operations in 25 states and international
