Bell Atlantic's Wholesale Digital Subscriber
Line (DSL) Offering Takes Effect
June 4, 1999

BACKGROUND -- The Federal Communications Commission issued an
order (6/2) allowing Bell Atlantic's Volume and Term Discount Plan tariff
for DSL service to take effect. The following response should be
attributed to Tom Tauke, senior vice president for Government Relations
at Bell Atlantic.
Bell Atlantic's wholesale offering is targeted for use by Internet
Service Providers and other carriers and is a big step toward ensuring that
high-speed access to the Internet is universally available to the public.
This furthers the goals of Congress, the Administration, and the FCC in
promoting deployment of broadband Internet access to the mass market.
