Black Enterprise Names Bell Atlantic's Bruce Gordon

NEW YORK - Black Enterprise magazine has named Bruce
Gordon, Bell Atlantic, group president - Retail, its 1998 "Executive of the
Year." Gordon is featured in the magazine's September issue.
His role as "merger maestro" of the Bell Atlantic - NYNEX
merger was key to his selection for this honor, the magazine said.
"By mastering the merger, Gordon earned 1998 Black Enterprise
Executive of the Year honors and proved once again that the most
successful executives in corporate Americas tend to be the ones who are
able to discover and express their entrepreneurial potential," said Earl G.
Graves, the magazine's publisher.
Gordon also was cited for his role in creating the marketing and
branding strategy that virtually overnight established consumer awareness
of the Bell Atlantic name with former NYNEX customers.
Gordon, a thirty-year veteran of Bell Atlantic, oversees a half-
billion dollar budget as head of retail marketing for the company's
consumer and business markets, which include some 24 million
households and more than two million businesses.
The magazine also praises him as a champion of corporate
diversity and a tireless catalyst in moving African Americans up the ranks
at Bell Atlantic.
