EASTERN TELELOGIC AND BELL ATLANTIC FILE JOINT PETITION FOR
ARBITRATION TO ESTABLISH AN INTERCONNECTION AGREEMENT
Progress Reported, But Additional Issues Must Be
Resolved, Both Sides Say
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA - Bell Atlantic and Eastern
TeleLogic Corporation,
a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), have filed a joint
petition for arbitration to establish interconnection agreements in
Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. Both companies have been in
talks since March.
Although Eastern TeleLogic and Bell Atlantic have reached agreement on
a number of issues, others remain unresolved, thereby requiring the
two companies to file for arbitration as mandated by the
Telecommunications Act of 1996. The companies will continue to
negotiate with each other and are confident they can come to terms on
most issues prior to the beginning of arbitration. Once a
comprehensive agreement is completed, it will provide for the seamless
exchange of traffic between the companies' networks on a mutual and
reciprocal basis.
Founded in 1986, Eastern
TeleLogic operates one of the largest fiber
optic networks in the Delaware Valley. The company provides an
extensive range of voice, data and broadband services to area
businesses, and has over 16,000 miles of fiber optics between
businesses in the tri-state area. Headquartered in King of Prussia,
the company has offices in downtown Philadelphia and Wilmington,
Delaware. Eastern TeleLogic is a Comcast Corporation affiliate.
Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE:BEL)
is at the forefront of
the new communications, entertainment, and information industry. In the
mid-Atlantic region, the company is the premier provider of local
telecommunications and advanced services. Globally, it is one of the
largest investors in the high-growth wireless communication
marketplace. Bell Atlantic also owns a substantial interest in
Telecom Corporation of New Zealand and is actively developing
high-growth national and international business opportunities in all
phases of the industry.
