Verizon has tapped Eric Fitzgerald Reed to lead its public policy initiatives with the high-tech and entertainment industries, effective immediately.  Reed will be based in San Francisco.

"Eric's proven track record with the high-tech industry, his strong network of contacts and thorough understanding of the complex relationships within the Internet ecosystem will make him a valuable asset to our team," said Tim McCallion, Verizon's West region vice president.  "His tech industry expertise will be an important resource as we continue to cultivate a favorable public policy environment for tech investment, collaboration and partnerships, innovation and consumer choice in California and other high-tech centers."

Reed joined Verizon's federal regulatory group in 2000 and became vice president-market issues and policy in the company's public affairs, policy and communications organization in 2006.  In that position, he has developed and advanced Verizon's policy on a variety of broadband and technology issues, and he has represented the company in various tech, business and manufacturing associations.

Reed holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from American University, and master's degrees in business administration and telecommunications management - from the University of Maryland University College.
