EUROTEL FIRST TO OFFER DIGITAL GSM SERVICE IN THE CZECH
Prague, Czech Republic -- Eurotel Praha s.r.o., Bell
Atlantic's cellular provider in the Czech Republic, has announced it is the
first company to
offer commercial GSM (Global System for Mobile) service in the country.
The newly launched service covers 43 percent of the licensed territory and
63 percent of the population.
The launch of service using the international digital GSM standard allows
Eurotel's customers to travel between their home market and a variety of
other nations, using the same phone and phone number.
At launch, roaming agreements are already in place which will allow
Eurotel's new GSM customers to travel to Austria, Germany,
Greece, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Hungary.
Nine types of GSM phones from suppliers such as Nokia, Motorola,
Panasonic, Ericsson, and Sony, are available today through Eurotel's
own direct distribution channels and authorized agents.
Eurotel, which had more than 55,000 analog customers at the end of May,
has been the exclusive provider of analog service in the Czech Republic
