NEW YORK - Howard Woolley, Verizon senior vice president of wireless public policy and government relations, has been named to the Executive Leadership Council, an organization representing the most senior African-American executives in Fortune 500 companies.

Started in 1986, the Executive Leadership Council provides these executives with a network and leadership forum. The council and its members help add perspective and direction to the achievement of excellence in business as well as economic and public policies for the African-American community, their corporations and the community at large.

"We welcome Howard Woolley as the newest Verizon member to join the Executive Leadership Council family," said Carl Brooks, president and CEO of the Executive Leadership Council.  "Howard's leadership and results-oriented focus will help strengthen an already strong and important relationship with the company."

The council's membership consists of nearly 400 corporate executives representing more than 200 companies from a variety of industries.

Based in Washington, D.C., Woolley has led public-policy initiatives for Verizon Wireless in the executive branch, Congress and the states since 2004.  Woolley joined the company in 1993 as assistant vice president - federal relations with Bell Atlantic Corp., a predecessor company of Verizon Communications, and has held a number of increasingly responsible assignments.

Woolley also serves on the World Affairs Council Board of Directors; the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Communications Advisory Board; and the board of directors of Everybody Wins, a reading-mentor program in Washington, D.C.
