Voice services to be delivered over GTE's new high-speed fiber network.

Irving, Texas. -- GTE Communications Corporation (GTECC), a unit of GTE Corp., and Capital Services of South Florida, Inc., a provider of long-distance telephone service primarily to developing nations, have signed a 10-year, $265 million agreement in which GTECC will supply transport services for Capital Services' voice traffic.

GTECC will carry Capital Services' long-distance traffic via GTE's Global Network Infrastructure (GNI) between Capital Services' three international gateways--New York, Miami and Los Angeles. The traffic will then be handed off to other telecommunication companies to complete the long-distance calls.

"This contract is an example of how GTE Communications Corporation is recognized as a leader in the broadband voice and data services market nationwide," said Dave Fanning, president of GTECC Strategic Markets. "Our strengths in the broadband market are based upon our ability to provide a total solution--to be the single point of contact for a customer, whatever their voice and data needs are," said Fanning.

Global Network Infrastructure (GNI)

The GNI is a nationwide, high-speed, high-capacity, 17,000-mile private fiber network. GTE's GNI is one of the most secure, reliable, high-bandwidth, end-to-end, multi-service, private networks in the industry, capable of eliminating single points of network failure through the use of synchronous optical network (SONET) rings and automatic protection switching (APS). The GNI provides virtually limitless capacity to meet the demands of GTE customers' most data-intensive applications
