DALLAS - GTE Directories (B) Sdn Bhd and Jabatan Telecom of Brunei, have signed a new five-year contract worth $12 million.
GTE Directories (B) Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Dallas/Fort Worth-based GTE Directories and Brunei investment group JATI investments, will continue providing sales and publishing support for Brunei's official telephone directory through the year 2001.
"We are pleased to renew this contract because we faced keen competition from other international directory companies," said Phillip White, GTE Directories area vice president -- Asia/Pacific. "And renewing this contract reflects our commitment to continue growing our international operations."
GTE and its affiliated companies have published Brunei directories since 1972. The Brunei directory has a circulation of approximately 100,000.
GTE Directories, based in Dallas/Fort Worth, is one of the world's largest telephone directory companies. It annually publishes or provides sales, consulting and other services relating to 2,400 directory titles throughout the United States and in Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America, with a total circulation of 80 million.
GTE Directories other advertising services include ON CALL audiotex services and Quick Tips electronic consumer information. GTE directories also offers an interactive directory service on the Internet, called SuperPages(sm) (http://superpages.gte.net). The company was named a 1994 winner of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which recognizes U.S. companies that have outstanding quality management systems.
