DALLAS -- GTE Directories today announced the debut of the Internet Guide, its newest Internet-related feature in The Everything Pages telephone directory. The Internet Guide is a comprehensive, printed guide with effective advertising opportunities and helpful consumer information for both the novice as well as the experienced Internet user in an easy-to-find, easy-to-read, and easy-to-use format.
The four-color Guide, which is found under the Internet heading in the Yellow Pages section of The Everything Pages directory, includes four informative sections: The Home Page, which provides a general overview of the Internet Guide; The AudioPageSM, featuring audiotex information lines that provide tips on using the Internet; the Brand URLs section that gives consumers a quick resource for finding the Web site addresses of national brand name corporations and local businesses; and a standard Yellow Pages advertising section, including Internet-related advertisers.
The Internet Guide will first appear in the Kauai and Maui, Hawaii, editions of The Everything Pages directory in September, and will publish in approximately 33 directories in 1997; it is slated to be included in 113 directories by the end of 1998. Advertising sales for 1997 publication began April 8.
GTE offers a variety of excellent and proven advertising opportunities with The Everything Pages directory and SuperPages Interactive Service, from traditional classified ads to audiotex sponsorships to on-line advertisements, said Jody Bilney, vice president of marketing for GTE Directories. The Internet Guide is a comprehensive resource tool that will help consumers access important information on the Internet.
The AudioPage, an interactive educational audiotex information section of the Internet Guide, is a free, 24-hour service for the novice and experienced Internet-user. Consumers can access via the telephone as many as 60 audiotex lines for Internet-related information. Headings include Getting Started, Getting Connected, What is the Internet?, Helpful Tools, Netiquette, and Netvertising with tips on effective Internet-advertising. The AudioPage is unique in that the information is accessed via audiotex information lines and can be updated and refreshed throughout the year.
This section offers advertisers an exclusive advertising opportunity. By sponsoring the AudioPage, an advertiser receives a banner advertisement across the bottom of the page and an advertising message on all the audiotex information lines.
Brand URLs is a Web site guide containing the logos, names and Web site addresses of well-known brand-name corporations as well as local businesses. The advertisement may also include a brief description of the company's Web site and a See Also reference, which guides users to the company's Yellow Pages advertisement.
Research indicates that nearly 52 percent of Internet users find Web sites via printed materials. Brand URLs gives consumers an easy reference guide to corporate Web site addresses and offers advertisers an innovative way to build traffic to their Web site and increase electronic commerce.
The Internet Guide's Related Services section encompasses Internet-related Yellow Pages advertising in The Everything Pages directory. Headings in this section include Marketing Services, Entertainment, Service Providers, Consultants, Software & Hardware, and Web Site Developers.
GTE Directories is a leader in linking buyers and sellers through effective advertising and information media. The company provides sales and other directory-related services for more than 2,400 directories worldwide, with a total circulation of 80 million copies. It develops and markets new media services, such as GTE's SuperPages Interactive Service (http://superpages.GTE.net), a premier Internet-based advertising and information resource.
